| i)
                    PURPOSE AND POLICY
The purpose of the RETERM - Thermal Engineering
Journal is to publish papers of permanent interest dealing
with research, development and design related to Energy, Equipments,
Oil and Gas.The journal is divided in two sections: i) Technology
and ii) Science. The Technology section comprises articles
that document modern engineering applications or general advances
in industry. The Science section is intended for publishing
articles that deal with fundamental advances in heat transfer
and fluid mechanics, new physical insights, and novel experimental
and analytical methods that have great appeal for the industry
                    community.
 Submission of full-length scientific, review
or technical papers to RETERM implies that it is not under
consideration for publication elsewhere and it has not been
previously published. Exception is made for papers previously
published in proceedings of conferences. Review articles should
constitute a critical appraisal of published information.
The decision of acceptance for publication either
for the Technology or the Science section lies with the Editors
and is based on the recommendations of at least two independent
referees and of the Editorial Board, if necessary.
 ii)
                    SUBMISSION
All manuscripts for RETERM must be written in
clear and concise English. The submission of a manuscript
may be carried out by:a) E-mail: The file (Word for Windows or Latex)
                    with the full m a n u s c r i p t ( i n c l u d i n g f i
                    g u r e s ) s h o u l d b e s e n t t o reterm@demec.ufpr.br;
 b) Mail: Three (3) hard copies of the manuscript
should be sent to the Technical Editor at: RETERM Departamento
de Engenharia Mecânica - Universidade Federal do Paraná,
Centro Politécnico, Caixa Postal 19011, CEP 81531-990,
                    Curitiba/PR-Brasil.
In any case, the manuscript should be accompanied
by a cover letter indicating to which journal section the
paper is intended to, i.e. Technology or Science. The cover
letter should also contain the full name and postal address
of the corresponding author and his/her phone, fax number
                    and e-mail address.
If the authors so wish, the names of up to five
persons who could act as referees may be indicated.
The authors should retain a copy of their manuscript
since the journal cannot accept responsibility for damage
                    or loss of papers.
 iii)
                    MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
The manuscript should be organized in the following
order: Title, authors, affiliations, abstract, keywords (3
to 5), nomenclature, main text (divided into sections and
                    subsections), acknowledgements, references, appendices, list
of table captions, tables (one per page), list of figure captions
and figures (one per page). Do not import tables and figures
into the main text. The abstract should state the objectives, methodology
and main conclusions in up to 300 words. In all papers, sufficient
information should be provided in the text or by referring
to papers in other journals, to permit the work to be repeated.
Manuscripts should be typed in double-spaced
justified paragraphs, on one side of A-4 sized pages, with
2.5 cm margins, and using font Times New Roman (size 12).
The pages should be numbered and the full length of the manuscript
including tables and figures should not exceed 30 pages.
 iii.1)
Units and SymbolsThe use of SI (metric) system is mandatory for
all reported data. Temperatures should be given in °C
or K. Uncertainties should be specified for experimental and
                    numerical results.
The nomenclature section should list, in alphabetical
order, all used symbols and their definitions, followed by,
if applicable, Greek symbols, subscripts and superscripts.
Besides, all symbols should be defined within the text.
 iii.2)
Mathematical ExpressionsMathematical expressions should be produced
by an equation editor and should not be introduced along the
text itself, as part of a sentence line, but typed on individual
                    lines.
 Numbers that identify mathematical expressions
should be enclosed in parentheses located at the right margin
of the paragraph. refer to equations in the text such as in
“…as derived from eq. (1)…”, or, if
at the beginning of a sentence, “Equation (1) indicates…”.
 iii.3)
Figures and TablesPhotographs, charts and diagrams are all to
be referred to as “Figure (s)”.
Figures should be submitted in laser printer
output, original line drawings or glossy prints. Photocopies
                    should be avoided.
Figures should be clear and suitable for reduction
(up to 50%). The amount of lettering should be reduced as
much as possible by transferring it to the figure legend.
Remaining lettering should be large enough to be clearly legible.
Figures and tables, with a suitable caption,
should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they
are referred to in the main text. Footnotes to tables should
be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript
                    lowercase letters.
Refer to figures or tables in the text such
                    as in “Figure 1 shows…”, or, “…in
                    Fig. 1 it is shown…”.
Please note that color figures or tables cannot
be printed in color. However, they will appear in color in
                    the journal website.
 iii.4)
ReferencesCite references in the text by giving the last
name of the author(s) and the year of publication: either
“Recent work (Prata and Parise, 1985) has indicated...”
or “Recently Prata and Parise (1985) indicated....”.
With three or more authors, use the form “Prata et al.
(1985)…”. When two or more references have the
same text identification, append “a”, “b”,
etc, to the year of publication.
 Acceptable references include: journal articles,
dissertations, published conference proceedings, books, accepted
articles if the journal is identified, and private communications.
References cited in the text should be listed,
in alphabetical order of the last name of the first author,
at the end of the paper. Some sample references follow:
